Clark County Equity Coalition

Donna Carter served on the local SBDM Council at one of the local schools in Clark County. During her tenure, a survey was conducted and there were several cultural and diversity questions on the survey. The results determined that a good percentage of the teachers did not feel comfortable about speaking to a student of a different culture or race. Donna Carter decided to create an organization to help bridge the gap for marginalized students within Clark County.

Donna learned about the Equity Coalition run by the Prichard Committee and contacted Laura Beard to learn more. Then she contacted Vache King and Beth Jones. Partnering with Vache King the Clark County Equity Coalition was created with the mission to provide, “Equal and meaningful preparation for all children, utilizing proactive measures.”  They want to ensure every student can graduate with a meaningful diploma.

The Clark County Equity Coalition focuses on building partnerships with local schools, students, parents, and other community organizations to bridge the gap for marginalized students. The Clark County Black & Hispanic Achievers was started, led by Vache King, the Clark County Health Department added equity and a meaningful diploma to the strategic plan, and a partnership with Clark County Public Schools, UK Healthcare, and InterSys, LLC was forged und er the leadership of Donna Carter to implement a Senior Interpreter Co-Op to train bilingual Spanish and English-speaking students in medical interpretation.  This program will kick-off in the 2024-2025 school year.
